BMW & MINI: Longlife Specifications
BMW's rigorous testing protocols produce some of the most demanding oil specifications in the industry, integrated directly with the Condition-Based Service (CBS) system that monitors oil degradation in real time.
- LL-01 & LL-04: most gasoline BMW/MINI engines (N20, N26, N52, N55, B46, B48, B58, S55, S58). LL-01 for 10,000-15,000-mile intervals; LL-04 low-SAPS for catalytic converters and GPF (2016+).
- LL-14 FE+ & LL-17 FE+: 2018+ models, 0W-20 fuel-economy and ultra-low-SAPS formulas. Using older LL-01/LL-04 in these engines will damage emissions systems.
- CBS integration: the system calculates oil life from temperature, RPM, fuel use and mileage, incorrect oil confuses it and causes premature service lights or inadequate intervals.
Mercedes-Benz: MB-Approval Standards
Mercedes oil approvals (MB-Freigabe) are model and engine-specific. Using the wrong approval, even a Mercedes-approved oil, can cause damage or void warranty.
- MB 229.5: most gasoline engines 2009-2016 (M272, M273, M276, M278), mid-SAPS 5W-40/5W-30.
- MB 229.51 / 229.52: 2016+ engines with particulate filters (M256, M264, M177/M178), low-SAPS 0W-20/0W-30.
- MB 229.71: 2020+ ultra-low-SAPS 0W-20, mandatory for warranty on newest models.
- Diesel warning: diesels require entirely different approvals (228.51/.52, 229.31/.52), we verify the correct spec for your exact VIN every time.
Audi & Volkswagen: VW Oil Standards
Volkswagen Group (including Audi) uses numbered oil standards across all VAG brands, non-negotiable for engine protection and warranty.
- VW 502 00 / 505 00: most 2000-2016 gas (502 00) and diesel (505 00) engines, 5W-30/5W-40.
- VW 504 00 / 507 00: 2009+ engines with DPF/GPF and flexible service intervals, the most common current spec (Audi A4, Q5, VW).
- VW 508 00 / 509 00: 2018+ ultra-low-SAPS 0W-20 for newest EA888 Gen 3B and beyond.
- TDI note: diesels need 505 00/507 00/509 00 with specific ash limits, gasoline-spec oil clogs the DPF within 10,000-20,000 miles ($2,500-$4,000 to replace).
Porsche: Porsche-Approved Requirements
Porsche flat-six and turbo engines run at extreme temperature and RPM, oil spec is critical for bearing life, IMS protection (older models), and oil pressure.
- Porsche A40: 0W-40 for most 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Panamera, Macan, maintains film strength above 250°F.
- Porsche C30 / C40: low-SAPS for 2017+ models with GPF (991.2, 992, 2019+ Cayenne/Macan).
- Air-cooled & classic: pre-1998 air-cooled 911s need specific mineral/semi-synthetic oils, never modern A40 full synthetic. We keep a separate vintage-oil inventory.
